Information Technology Center - New Name for DA Site

Information Technology Center (ITC) is the new name for elementary and secondary education’s information and technology support centers. The 23 centers (historically DA Sites) are owned and governed by their member school districts. The ITCs are part of the Ohio Education Computer Network. Funding comes from the State of Ohio and from member schools. Most ITCs have been providing essential services to schools for 25 years. They were known as DA Sites or data acquisition sites from 1994 to 2005. Starting in 1979, they were known as “A” Sites. All of this is in response to Ohio Administrative Code 3301-3 and recent modifications.

The State Board of Education took the final step to approve the modified Ohio Administrative Code 3301-3 on Sept 13, 2005 . The name change was designed to more appropriately describe the multitasking responsibilities of the centers. Other regulations were changed to reflect current technology and services. Each ITC provides fiscal services (accounting and payroll), electronic resources (INFOhio) and library automation, Student Information and Accounting Services, Educational Management Information Services, and Internet connectivity and email support. Different sites offer optional services as requested by their member schools to enhance instructional programs. Additionally each ITC provides two way electronic communication and data flow between the schools and the Ohio Department of Education, and the State of Ohio Legislature and Administration.

The seven parts of Ohio Administrative Code 3301-3 were revised over the past several months with significant input from the schools, the centers, and the department of education. It followed the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules’ procedures. A Section 119 of the Ohio Revised Code hearing was held, and then the state Board of Education adopted the final rule at their September 2005 meeting.

The text of the administrative rule 3301-3 is available through www.ode.state.oh.us or Anderson Publishing. Information about services is available from your area Information Technology Center (formerly DA Site). A listing of the individual centers can be found at www.mcoecn.org, the association of the ITCs.
